Nadia district with Bhagirathi river on the West and Mathabhanga in the North is best remembered for Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a prominent spiritual leader of the late 15th and early 16th century. A hub of puppetry, folk musical instruments and Baul – Fakiri music, Nadia has 181 string puppeteers, 75 artists who make folk instruments, 309 clay doll makers and 733 Baul artists.
